Subject: Random numbers randomizer
Is there a way of 'randomizing' the output of the standard random number
generator in E. If there is, what is it?
Thanks in advance

That error is a IFFERR_READ, which is a stream read error. Maybe you could try
it on another file.

Subject: Problem child program
I am waiting to be added to the mailing list, but I have a problem that
is driving me up the wall. Included here is a program fragment I've been
working on, which has tons of Enforcer hits, and I can't figure out why.
Also, it seems that AZ becomes very unstable when Enforcer is running,
causing lots of hits.
If it helps:
My system: Amiga 2000, 33 MHz Zeus 040 accel w/ 12 Megs 32 bit RAM,
Quantum LP52S hd, and Syquest 44. I run 2.04 WB/KS. If you have any clue
about the cause, please mail me back. I like the E language, but this simple
example is driving me nuts!

Subject: ADMIN: AmigaE list delays
I'm sure that some of you have noticed a break in the
flow of list mail from AmigaE over the last few days. Our
feed system changed their setup over the weekend, and in
the process broke our up-til-now very reliable connection.
We have finally resolved this problem, and mail will once
again be flowing freely beginning in the evening of
Thursday, Feb. 3, 1994.
If, after a couple of days, you feel that mail you sent
has not appeared on the list, please resend it. It is
possible, though not likely, that some mail was lost while
we wrestled with software configurations.
Sorry for any inconvenience these delays may have caused.
Norm.

Hmm, strange.. Yeah, I haven't touched said program myself in
quite a few days, having just gotten ahold of Dune II and 1869. heh.

Drag selecting, yah, I've been thinking of that myself, and the
only solution I have is this: There is no intuition way to do it. You can
try IDCMP_MOUSEMOVE reports, and get it to REPORTMOUSE, and this works,
but only when the mouse is moving. I want mine to start scrolling the list
(and selecting as it goes), if you hold down the mouse button and drag it
off the window. I can see no system friendly way to do this, so I might
have to add it to Dirj's input handler.

Ok, this is a bit tricky, but is quite doable. My details may be a
bit off, because I don't have the RKMs with me, but here's the gist.
First, to avoid having devices you don't like, use the Dos (I believe)
call, IsFileSystem().
To get the volume of the currently selected dir, somewhere in the
directory structure there's a pointer to a DiskInfo structure (or
something similar). This contains the volume node name and the size. So
this way, if you have an assign of c:, and it was actually dh0:c, you
could track down that c: was actually on dh0:, and dh0: has x bytes left.
I'll do a little write up on this when I get home and post it next time I
get on this stupid Mac to check my mail. Oh, for a remote account.
